On his second release for Modern Aviation, The All Golden (Pete Gofton of Kenickie, J Xaverre, George Washington Brown) finds himself working with a new collaborator: his teenage self.

The tracks on Pagodas all began as bedroom four-track recordings, performed on a Logan string synth found in a skip, a fretless bass, and his dad’s guitars and pedals.

"The two Cathy Berberian tracks, I started when I was like 12-13," says Pete. "No lie. First things I ever recorded. Most of them are from my late teens/20s."

In 2020, inspired by finding a stash of his old cassettes, Pete digitised the material and set to work remixing and reinterpreting it. The result is a lush, tape-worn sonic collage, rich with melody and texture, that blurs the lines between the past and the present.

REALLY wish I'd subscribed sooner to be able to enjoy this on vinyl! Curious the artist cited 12 Monkeys and not La Jetee as one of the key inspirations. For me, this has a more somber, introspective and timeless feel more akin to La Jetee than 12 Monkeys (though I also am a big fan of Terry Gilliam). Gorgeous music and you get the bonus of a list of excellent movies to enjoy (another note to the artist: Time Crimes is also a good film to watch). Now to somehow procure a vinyl copy...
